Many graduate schools in the United States require applicants to take the Graduate Record Examination, or GRE. The test is a measure of abilities in four areas: critical thinking, analytical writing, quantitative reasoning, and verbal reasoning. There are six sections on the exam: two verbal sections, two quantitative sections, one writing section, and one experimental section. The GRE is taken on a computer, and there are two main scores, verbal and quantitative, which range from 130 – 170. For the most recent year, the average score in both was approximately 151. Diligent preparation is a prerequisite for taking the exam. Mometrix Academy provides an extensive and growing library of GRE prep videos, all free of charge.
